Hand Pulled Cotton Candy Recipe

When you think of going to a carnival or an amusement park, the first thing that comes to your mind for your children’s entertainment and for your sweet tooth is “Cotton Candy”. But unfortunately, people do not think, they can actually make it in the comfort of their home with every ingredient mostly available. Yeah, yeah, I know, it might be too hectic for some people, but if you love cooking and are in for an adventurous ride: Come on people!!! Hop on.

Here I want to add that I got my inspiration for this from MasterChef Australia, where a contestant did it for the immunity challenge and rocked it. I do recommend that video as it would be a great help for you if you want to actually see the real experience you are in for. So, without any further delay, let’s get started!!!!

Ingredients:

All-purpose flour                                         500 grams

Sugar                                                                 2 cups

Salt                                                                    ¼ teaspoon

Corn syrup                                                      1 cup

Water                                                                 1 cup

Fruit/Vanilla Extract

Food color                                                         2 drops

Recipe:

·         Take all-purpose flour in a pan and roast it in a pan on low to medium heat. Constantly, stir it until it starts to change its color. Take the pan off and set it aside to cool down.

·         Now comes the main mixture which is the most important step, and you have to be really careful. Try not to spill it on yourself as melted sugar is really hot and can burn your skin really badly. Be extra careful and vigilant.

·          In a separate pan, add sugar, salt, corn syrup and water and put it on a stove on again on a low to medium heat. Constantly mix the mixture and wipe the side of the pans to avoid burning.

·         Keep on stirring till the mixture so that it will not crystallize again at least it reaches 320°F. you can either use a candy thermometer or look for a nice golden color of the mixture.

·         Take of the mixture and pour on a nonstick sheet. At this point add vanilla extracts and food color. Let it cool for a few minutes till the edges barely start to set. Use rubber cooking gloves to mold the sugar mixture as it still is hot. Now fold the mixture into a circle.

·         Put the roasted flour on the tray, roll and try to stretch/tease the sugar ring in the flour mix. Take it out and make a figure 8 of the stretched circle and combine those two circles again and repeat the process in the flour. From a single circle you get 2 then 4, 8, 16 and so on.

·         The flour will not allow the strands of the pulled cotton candy to stick again. Now you have to repeat making an eight figure combine both circles and tease/stretch to the point u get thousands of strands.

·         The process may look time taking but it takes hardly 15 mins as you have to do it quickly. Now you get thousands of hairs like strands of hand pulled cotton candy.

Note:

I used vanilla extract for my mixture and did not add any food color. But you can use any to get all fun color and flavor for your kids. Whoosh!!! Done with the cotton candy now pair it with my favorite Nutella pan cakes or creampuff rolls or jam filled croissants. On the side, you can add fresh fruits and chocolate syrup and fruit purees.

Voila! Again, another exciting and full of fun recipe. Stay tuned for more 😊
